F1: Where is Alex Jacques? A number of key commentators of Channel 4’s Formula One coverage are absent at the Styrian Grand Prix today.
Jacques joined Channel 4’s F1 team in 2020
In 2020, Alex Jacques was announced as Channel 4’s lead commentator starting from 2021.
The appointment came after Ben Edwards decided to step down from the role after four years.
In the past, Jacques has provided commentary for F1’s official television channel, including for F2, F3 and Esports.

He said: “I’m delighted to join the Channel 4/Whisper F1 team.”
Why is Jacques absent from the Styrian GP?
The commentary team at Channel 4 has been hit with a positive covid test.
That means three key members, including Jacques, will be absent from the race.
Former racer turned F1 pundit Billy Monger tested positive ahead of the weekend.
Lead commentator Alex Jacques, as well as lead presenter Steve Jones, spent time with Monger before the race.
They are therefore self-isolating as a result.
Monger, who will have to isolate in Austria for ten days before he returns to England, tweeted: “Since arriving out here I’ve unfortunately tested positive for covid.
Who will replace them?
Ben Edwards will stand in for Jacques in the commentary booth, working remotely from the UK.
David Coulthard, who is in Austria, will remain co-commentator.
