What happened next tells you all you need to know about the emerging baseball star…
Druw Jones goes viral with big home run
Druw Jones is a senior for Wesleyan High School in Norcross, Georgia. His team recently faced Decatur winning 6-1, and the highlight of the game came when he hit a big home run amid jeers of “overrated”.
What we know about Druw Jones, Andrew Jones’ son
Druw Jones plays centerfield just like his ten-time Gold Glove Award-winning dad. The 18-year-old is 6ft 4in, 190lb, and bats (and throws) right-handed. Just like his father, he can mash with the best of them.
According to Forbes, scouts say he has “plus speed, raw power, elite defensive skills and a great feel for hitting”.
His draft stock couldn’t be higher as MLB Network has named Jones top prospect of the 2022 MLB Draft. Druw is officially committed to Vanderbilt but it’s expected he will be a first-round pick and will go straight to the league.
The Baltimore Orioles, Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers are the teams with the first three picks in the draft and, if they offer enough bonus money, they could persuade Druw to go pro.
Jones’ final high-school season only started in mid February and yet he has already had several viral moments. On 19 February footage of him hitting two dingers went viral:

Druw played in the MLB / USA Baseball All America game at Denver’s Coors Field during the 2021 All-Star break. He also won most valuable player honours in the Baseball Factory All-America game in September.
When Druw inevitably joins MLB, he’ll have a shot at becoming one half of one of the best father-son duos in league history. Andruw Jones finished his career with 434 home runs as well ten consecutive Gold Gloves.
“He’s got the tools and he’s got a good instinct,” Jones said of his son. “He’s got a good idea about what to do at the plate and when he’s in the field. He’s got a good knowledge of the game. I just wish the best for him and hopefully I’ll be here supporting and passing knowledge on to him.”
The 2022 MLB Draft is scheduled to take place during the All-Star break in mid-July.
