UFC star Michael Chandler has boldly claimed that Dustin Poirier will finish Charles Oliveira when they face each other for the Lightweight title.

Chandler had his chance to become the champ when he faced Do Bronx at UFC 262 back in May. The American looked like he could finish the job at one point, but Oliveira came back strong and picked up the win in the second round.

Chandler is now set to face Justin Gaethje and the winner of that fight will likely get a shot at the title. Poirier and Oliveira are expected to lock horns in December, and Iron Mike believes that the Brazilian won’t stand a chance.

Chandler: Poirier will beat Oliveira

Speaking on The MMA Hour, Chandler said: “I think Dustin Poirier (will beat Charles Oliveira).

“I think they’re both complete fighters. I think Oliveira has shown over his last couple of fights, especially the fight against me, his hands have come along.

“He is basic and he hits hard. He hits harder than we think. His grappling is obviously always been on-point, but I just think Dustin Poirier is a little bit better in every area.

“I think Dustin Poirier’s cardio (is better). Dustin Poirier’s ability to get him hurt and finish the fight, like I wasn’t able to do, is second to none. I think Dustin Poirier wins that fight by a third or fourth-round stoppage.”

Poirier the favourite?

Most MMA fans wrote Poirier off following his defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Not many people expected him to come back and dominate the division the way he has over the last two years.

The Diamond beat Dan Hooker last year before becoming one of the best in the division by beating Conor McGregor. His second fight against the Notorious one ended due to a doctor’s stoppage, but we all know what would have happened if the fight had carried on.

Oliveira is a fantastic fighter and is one of the best in the world. Chandler, however, is right. Poirier is arguably a bit better in every single area, and he will be the favourite to become the new Lightweight champion when they face each other.
