The NCAA Tournament returns on Thursday night for the Sweet 16 round. One of the match-ups sees the Duke Blue Devils versus the Texas Tech Red Raiders, in what is a battle between the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds.
Texas Tech beat Notre Dame on Sunday, and are 27-9 for the season. Ahead of the huge game against the Blue Devils, we find out more about head coach Mark Adams and his wife and family.
Career of Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach
65-year-old Mark Adams has been head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders since April 2021. Previously, he was associate basketball coach at Texas Tech and a vital part of the management team that helped the program to the Elite Eight in 2018.
In 2019 he went one better and helped Texas Tech reach the 2019 NCAA National Championship final.
Adams attended Texas Tech in his youth and served as a student assistant to head coach Gerald Myers. Adams graduated in 1979 and went on to work at Clarendon College, Wayland Baptist, West Texas A&M, Texas Pan-American and Howard College. He also assisted Chris Beard at the Little Rock Trojans.
Mark Adams’ wife and family
Mark Adams’ wife is Jennifer Adams, who he proposed to at a WT game at the Amarillo Civic Center. Jennifer and Mark Adams have two children – son Luke and daughter Abbie. Luke was a four-year letter winner at Texas Tech between 2012 and 2015, and is now a coach at New Mexico Junior College.
His daughter Abbie also is a Texas Tech graduate.
Adams and Mike Krzyzewski face off in NCAA Tournament
Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski is one of the most successful head coaches in Division 1 history, winning five NCAA titles and three Olympic gold medals. Krzyzewski is retiring at the end of this season, and Adams could be the final person to beat the legendary Duke coach.
Speaking about Adams, Krzyzewski said (via ESPN): “He has learned the game (but while) a lot of us have plane stops, he has learned it with bus stops, the different levels he has been at. I respect the heck out of that.
“When you are at the bus stops, you don’t make a lot of money (so) you better love what you do. It’s obvious that’s what he has done and he has taken it to a really high level.”
It will be the first time Krzyzewski and Adams have faced each other and, according to CBS Sports, the Red Raiders are slight favourites.
