Sadio Mane has praised Liverpool teammates Alisson and Roberto Firmino in an interview with ESPN.
Alisson has made some high-profile errors of late, as Liverpool’s title defence has crumbled.
His fellow Brazilian Firmino has also come under fire because of his goal record.
But Mane was effusive in defence of his fellow Reds, and said Firmino deserves more credit than him and Mo Salah.
STEVEN GERRARD TO ASTON VILLA IS WRONG.
“I am surprised when people talk about Alisson’s mistakes. When the best goalkeeper in the world makes one or two mistakes, that is strange.
“But it’s not just him, it’s the whole team. But how many times has Alisson saved us? Without him, we would probably never be Champions League champions or won any trophy.
“For me, he is the best goalkeeper in the world, with a great mentality. In the locker room, he is always up, he knows his quality. He is fine.
On Firmino, he added: “I always said that he deserves more credit than Salah and I. If it weren’t for him, we wouldn’t score as many goals as we scored. Brazil is very lucky to have Firmino.”
Alisson’s quality is not in doubt. It just seems that he tried to deal with Liverpool’s defensive crisis by taking on more responsbility.
That meant he got involved in situations he shouldn’t have, and was guilty of overplaying at times.
Firmino does need to improve his goal output, but we’ve heard for years how important he is to Liverpool and that remains the case.
Mane and his other teammates will realise that and both Brazilians will be vital to Liverpool’s hopes of getting the Premier League title back next season – and their bid for Champions League glory this term.
