Liverpool transfer update – possible signings

Folarin Balogun

The Athletic reports Liverpool will attempt to lure Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun to Anfield.

The forward has been in fine form this campaign, with seven goals and three assists in 17 games across all competitions. These comprise four goals and two assists for Arsenal’s development squad in Premier League 2.

Balogun was left out of the Gunners FA Cup squad to face Newcastle at the weekend, supposedly amid speculation of a move.

The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the best young defenders in Europe and has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United in the past.

David Alaba

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has said on GiveMeSport he believes any move involving David Alaba to Liverpool hinges on the Austrian’s salary demands.

The Bayern Munich defender is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with the Reds. Alaba’s desired salary is estimated to be €12 million (£10.81 million) a season.

It may be a hefty sum but can Liverpool afford to turn their nose up at one of Europe’s most highly rated defenders.

Contract talks

Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport he believes Liverpool are making strides to tie down Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho to longer deals.

The pair played pivotal roles in last season’s Premier League triumph.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah’s future is also being discussed, albeit not as a priority. Romano suggested the Egyptian’s agent was negotiating with the club regarding a new contract but said more in-depth conversations would take place next year.

According to Goal, Liverpool have been talking to a host of clubs in Belgium, Switzerland and Germany about loaning out Sepp van den Berg.

The defender has yet to feature for the senior team this campaign but made four first-team appearances in domestic cup competitions last term.

The 19-year-old is eager for regular game time, however, and has also been linked with Blackburn Rovers, who already have the Reds’ Harvey Elliott on loan.
