Arsenal legend Tony Adams has mapped out a way that would see Mesut Ozil return to the side. However, the chances of such a scenario happening have to be considered slim or none.

While appearing on Sky Sports, Adams suggested Ozil and Thomas Partey could form a partnership in the middle of the park, with Partey taking on more of a defensive role and Ozil getting forward.

‘One of the best creative players’

Adams said: “Creativity may not be Partey’s game but what you have got is presence, you’ve got a leader.

“Ozil, for me, is one of the best creative players in the world. What he struggles with at times is the defensive side of the game. But what he has got, if he played in this team now, is someone like Partey who can cover.”

That certainly would be an interesting midfield partnership. However, you have to imagine it’s not going to happen any time soon.

It would take a lot for Ozil to be reinstated to Arsenal’s squad for the Premier League. An incredibly lengthy injury crisis, for example.

Hasn’t played once for Arsenal this season

As it is, the 32-year-old hasn’t played for Arsenal once this season. If he did return, that would be an admission by Mikel Arteta he had made a mistake in leaving him out of the squad. Managers hate to do that kind of thing.

There’s no doubt Partey has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season. He was particularly good in the recent win over Manchester United.

However, it would take time for any Ozil and Partey partnership to be established. Arsenal don’t have that time.

It would also be pointless to establish a partnership that would only last a season. Ozil looks certain to leave Arsenal when his contract expires in the summer.

It’s certainly out of the box thinking from the former Gunners captain. However, don’t expect his dream to come true.
