Leeds United skipper Liam Cooper has praised the impact made by manager Marcelo Bielsa on his career. He has revealed he wishes he had worked with the Argentinian earlier in his career, the Daily Record reports.
Cooper has seen the club transformed in the past few seasons. After years of frustration, the club finally returned to the Premier League under Bielsa.
Cooper has labelled the manager a “genius” for the job he has done so far at Elland Road.
‘Learning every day’
“He’s a genius to be fair,” Cooper said. He sees the game in a completely different way.
“I’m learning every day. I just wish I had worked with the manager earlier in my career but I’m going to make up for it now. It can’t get much better. Like I said, you’ve got to pinch yourself sometimes.”
On the biggest stage
Bielsa is a visionary and his methods have improved Leeds exponentially.
Now he has to make sure his methods work in the Premier League. It has been a decent start so far. Leeds turned in excellent displays against Liverpool and Manchester City.
However, the team suffered two 4-1 thumpings at the hands of Leicester and Crystal Palace recently.
The international break may have come at a good time for Leeds. It gives Bielsa time to sort out the issues behind the defeats.
Whatever new ideas the manager imparts, it seems the players will support them no questions asked judging by Cooper’s comments. After all, he has led Leeds back to the promised land.
There were always going to be bumps in the road when it came to Leeds’ return to the Premier League. But as long as Bielsa has the unwavering support of the players, they should have nothing to worry about.
