Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jurgen Klinsmann believes Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is on a “very good path” towards securing the club’s first league title for 60 years, talking to ESPN.
The ex-Chelsea and Manchester United tactician has overseen his current Tottenham side lead the Premier League table and reach the last-32 of the Europa League. They are also in the last-four of the Carabao Cup.
Questions were asked whether the two-time Champions League winner still had it in him to deliver trophies. Jose Mourinho has gone two and a half seasons without silverware.
However, despite approaching fixtures with Mourinho’s defensive mentality, Tottenham Hotspur are unbeaten in ten league matches. And Klinsmann believes that the Portuguese has proved his critics wrong.
Jurgen yearning for Tottenham trophies
Speaking to ESPN, following Spurs’ victory in the north London derby, the German spoke of Spurs’ desperation to end their trophy drought. He hinted that Mourinho’s intervention could be the driving force to achieving the feat this campaign.
“Yeah, he’s proving people wrong. It’s really wonderful to see because at the end of the day results are the most important thing for Tottenham.
“They want to badly, badly win a title and that might be the year to win it.”
‘Very good path’
Former Germany boss Klinsmann hailed the Portuguese as a ‘master of psychological games.’
He suggested that despite his critics, his track record justified his team’s style of play.
He also alluded to Mourinho’s predecessor Mauricio Pochettino. Klinsmann claimed the Argentine had laid the foundations for the impressive squad contingent, with the Portuguese looking to develop it.
“He knows he has to in certain areas win people over but he’s very thoughtful, he’s very determined but we also cannot forget that the base of that team is the base of what [Mauricio] Pochettino built.
“Pochettino built that squad and he kind of added a couple of pieces to it, Jose, but he’s now grateful to have a wonderful roster and he knows the expectations is to deliver a title to Spurs and I think he’s on a good path, a very good path.”
