Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade rolled and floated down the streets of New York yesterday (November 24, 2022), and among the spectators was none other than Jordan Burroughs.

“Sitting with his family, that is Jordan Burroughs,” read the voiceover on NBC during its coverage of the Thanksgiving parade.

“We wish good luck to Jordan and the rest of his USA teammates as they go for the gold in the next Olympics.”

Who were the members of his family he was sitting with, and what has Burroughs been up to this year?

Burroughs and his family wrapped up warm against the New York chill yesterday (November 24, 2022) while soaking up the atmosphere at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

He was there with his wife Lauren (née Mariacher) and their four children, Beacon, Ora, Rise, and Banner.

While he’s not from New York City per se, he hails from not far away. Born in Camden, New Jersey, Jordan Burroughs has “ties” to the Buffalo Bills, per the team’s own website, and supports the team.

He’s the nephew, by marriage, of Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas.

How did Burroughs meet his wife Lauren?

By the time the 2016 Olympics rolled around, Jordan Burroughs and his wife Lauren had been married for three years, and had two children.

Their love story, wrote Bustle at the time, “started with sports.”

Burroughs and Mariacher first met at a wrestling tournament in Philadelphia – the 2011 NCAA Championships. She was there to watch her brother Matty wrestle for American University, according to the website the couple made for their wedding.

“But there was another wrestler there that weekend that would catch her attention,” the site reads. Bustle suspects it was more Jordan than Lauren who wrote this particular section. “A young stallion named Jordan.”

They married in October 2013.

He claimed his sixth career gold medal this year

Jordan Burroughs defeated Mohammad Nokhodilarimi of Iran in September 2022. The result was that he won his ninth career medal at the World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade.

He also won in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2021.

Along with his Olympic title, that makes Burroughs the wrestler with the most gold medals in US history. Plus, he has three bronze medals from 2014, 2018 and 2019. Quite the collection.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade television voiceover wished Jordan Burroughs and his teammates good luck for the next Olympic games in Paris, in 2024, which NBC and Peacock will be covering.

Jordan Burroughs likes to wish his fans happy Thanksgiving – the parade was how he did it this year

In 2018, he tweeted “Happy Thanksgiving!”

That year, he also posted on Instagram in solidarity with other wrestlers struggling to fight the urge to gorge on Thanksgiving delights.

“The struggle is real,” he wrote. See here.

Two years later, he posted something similar. Except this time, he added: “Especially wrestlers. This is the first time we can all actually eat! Let’s go!”

And this year, Jordan Burroughs marked the event by waving serenely alongside his family at the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade, not letting on whether his current training regimen allows him to eat, eat, eat to his heart’s delight.
