Olivier Giroud had an unbelievable night as Chelsea thrashed Sevilla 4-0 yesterday.

The Frenchman grabbed all four goals, including a perfect hat trick as Chelsea sealed top spot in their Champions League group.

Former Blues playmaker Joe Cole was among the BT Sport pundits analysing the game – and unsurprisingly he was full of praise for Giroud.

He went as far as suggesting Giroud is in the best form of his entire career, including his spell with Arsenal.

“His movement tonight was exceptional,” said Cole. “With target men and number nines, they mature later.

“We might even be seeing the best version of Olivier Giroud. He was at Arsenal and you never felt he was appreciated there as a number nine – the main one.

“He’s a world champion, an exceptional player and we’ve all been guilty of under-appreciating him in England.

There’s been a lot of talk about Giroud not getting the respect he deserves of late.

There is something in that, especially with clubs up and down the country desperately seeking out experienced goalscorers.

Someone who has done the business for a number of years, and won a World Cup obviously deserves respect for his achievements.

But as Cole says, Giroud looks to be on a new level, in terms of maturity, movement and quality. He simply looks a better player than when he was at Arsenal.

That’s why he’s getting the credit right now, and he fully deserves it.
