Day two of the NOBULL CrossFit Games Finale 2022 is underway and there is no sign of competition favorite Katrin Davidsdottir, who held the coveted title of Fittest Woman on Earth for two years in a row.

This year’s games are a tight competition with five days of impressive feats of nearly superhuman strength and endurance, taking place between August 3-7 in Madison, Wisconsin.

But where is Katrin Davidsdottir? The Icelandic athlete has become a household name at the Crossfit Games and 2022 would mark her eighth year in a row competing.

Now, fans of the sport are turning in hoping to see their favorite athlete make another bid for the title of Fittest on Earth.

Who is 2015 & 2016 Fittest Woman of Earth Katrin Davidsdottir?

Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir is an Icelandic CrossFit athlete known for her eight years competing in the CrossFit Games. In 2015, when she was just 22, Davidsdottir won the coveted title of Fittest Woman on Earth, a performance she repeated in front of a delighted crowd one year later.

Along with her compatriot, Annie Thorisdottir, Katrin is the only other woman to hold repeating titles two years in a row.

Born in London on May 10, 1993, Katrin began training in CrossFit when she was 18. Before that, she had trained as a gymnast for 10 years and did one year of track and field.

“From a young age, I have trained six days a week, a few hours each time, so putting in a lot of hours in the gym feels natural to me,” she told CrossFit.Com in 2013.

Almost one year after starting CrossFit, in 2012, Katrin Davidsdottir competed in her first CrossFit Games, starting an eight year streak that fans of the sport adore her for.

In 2021, the athlete began dating Canadian former professional ice hockey forward Brooks Laich, who is 10 years her senior. As is obvious from their social media profiles, the two seem very much in love and keep an active workout schedule together.

Davidsdottir and Laich don’t have any children together, though they are both proud “parents” to two pups. Katrin has Theódór Stormur – Theó for short – a one year old Pomeranian who love to read children’s books, and Laich has an energetic Husky named Koda.

Will Katrin Davidsdottir compete in the 2022 CrossFit Games?

So, will Katrin Davidsdottir continue her unbroken streak at the 2022 CrossFit Games Final? Unfortunately, no.

At the Last Chance Qualifier which took place on July 1, 2022, newcomer Elena Carratala Sanahuja edged out Davidsdottir from her spot in this year’s finals.

“I was so excited to continue riding this wave into the Games!”, she posted after the final leaderboards had been decided.

“I just LOVE this sport & LOVE competing so I am so sad that my season is over right now!!!!!”

“But,” she promised fans, “I am also a firm believer that THE BEST IS YET TO COME! ❤️ I’ll be back next year!”

This is Sanahuja’s first time qualifying for the Games, though if her 2021 performances in the LCQ and Lowlands Throwdown are anything to go by, she is one to keep an eye on in 2022. In late June 2022, Sanahuja won first in the French Throwdown, scoring 756 points against Freya Moosbrugger.

What is Katrin Davidsdottir up to for the rest of 2022? The athlete appears to be training as hard as, if not harder then, ever, intent on returning to the Games next year. In the meantime, she is enjoying summer in LA and morning hikes with her boyfriend – just living the life.

Athletes to watch in the 2022 final

With Davidsdottir sadly absent from the 2022 Games, who should fans keep an eye out for?

In the women’s individual, American athlete Mallory O’Brien is at the top of the day two leaderboard. At only 18, Mallory won the CrossFit Open, becoming the youngest person ever to do so.

In the men’s category, Saxon Panchik is heading the day two leaderboard. This is the 25-year-old’s fifth time competing in the CrossFit Games.

If you want to tune in and support your favorite athletes, or just witness impressive feats of strength and endurance, the 2022 CrossFit Games are livestreamed on the official Youtube page, FacebookTwitch and the Pluto TV Sports Channel, or by downloading the CrossFit Games app.

On cable TV, CBS Sport has select coverage of the event, streaming the individual finals on Sunday, August 7 from 1 pm to 3 pm ET.
