Chelsea defender Emerson has been linked with a January move away from Stamford Bridge by reports in Italy.
On Wednesday, Corriere Dello Sport named him among former Blues boss Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan targets for the winter window.
Now, the man who joined Chelsea for £17.6 million (BBC) back in 2018 has expressed his desire to return to Italy.
As per TMW, via Inter News, he said he would love to go back to Serie A, but doesn’t know when it’ll happen.
“We have to wait,” said Emerson. “Football this year is a bit strange, so is the transfer market. Unfortunately I am not playing much at Chelsea, but I am calm and I think things will improve, in London or elsewhere.
“The coach talked to me, he told me that the best thing is to play: let’s see in two months, if I get into the team at Chelsea or we will look for another club.
“I received interest, not only from Italy. Nothing concrete , but obviously I’d love to return to Serie A. I do not know if it will happen in January or in five years, I can’t say. In football everything changes too quickly.”
With Ben Chilwell having established himself at Chelsea now, Emerson’s chances of getting back into the side look slim.
He is also more of a wing-back and Frank Lampard has settled on playing a back four at the moment – which is working well.
Reece James can play at left back if needed, which also puts the squeeze on Emerson.
He is talking like a man who is very open to leaving west London when the January window opens, and says he has had interest.
Chelsea may need to offload players to fund moves for new blood and the defender looks an obvious candidate on that score.
