David Moyes has praised Vladimir Coufal despite his side losing to Manchester City, when speaking to Football.London after the match.

When speaking after the 2-1 loss to Manchester City, Moyes was full of praise for Coufal despite his side losing the match:

“He has been great for us and he is a terrific player but also a terrific boy to have around and that is the sort of thing that goes through the squad and through the players is a great self-belief.”

The Czech full-back joined West Ham for an undisclosed fee and has a contract until 2023 – with a further two year extension should the Hammers choose to use it.

Moyes also praised the 28-year-old’s character and spoke of the Czech setting high standards for the Irons:

“He is a great character Vladimir and thinks we should be winning all of the games.”

Michail Antonio got the only goal for the Hammers against City, scoring just before half-time thanks to an assist from Jesse Lingard.

But Coufal did finish the match with a respectable Whoscored rating of 6.76 out of 10.

Coufal – continuing to impress

Coufal has played 21 Premier League matches already this season, totalling 1975 minutes of game time under Moyes.

This level of faith has produced some positive results, with the full-back chipping in with three assists.

The 28-year-old’s average Whoscored rating in the league is 6.97 out of 10.

Which is the fifth-highest in the entire Hammers squad, not bad for a defensive player.

His fellow countryman Tomas Soucek is also doing well, currently averaging the second-highest rating within Moyes’ side.

The next assignment for West Ham is Leeds United, who are also going to try and bounce back from defeat – which should make the match extra interesting.
