Brentford winger Said Benrahma has reportedly failed his medical, leaving his move to West Ham in danger of falling through.

The 25-year-old shone in the Championship last season, registering 17 goals and nine assists in the league. His outstanding form took Brentford to the brink of promotion. However, a play-off final defeat to Fulham meant the club fell short in their bid for Premier League football.

Speculation mounted over the summer as to where his next destination would be. Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham were all reportedly in the running, but were unable to get a deal across the line.

Move in jeopardy

This allowed West Ham to make their move, with the Hammers agreeing to sign the Algerian playmaker for £25m earlier this week. However, the transfer is now in jeopardy following reports Benrahma failed to pass his medical.

According to The Mirror, West Ham were informed of the news early on Friday morning.

Mirror Sport spoke to a Brentford source, who said: “Nothing has been done yet. Conversations are ongoing.”

If the deal does break down, it will be a bitter blow for the Irons. Benrahma was expected to be the club’s marquee signing of the window following a summer of frustration, which included missing out on Burnley defender James Tarkowski.

It could lead to the club’s owners desperately looking elsewhere ahead of the window closing later today. David Moyes was able to tempt Jarrod Bowen away from Championship side Hull on the final day of the January transfer window, suggesting another last-minute deal could be a possibility.

For now, though, news of Benrahma’s failed medical has been met with despair by sections of West Ham supporters. The fans have been quick to voice their feelings about the situation on social media.

Here’s how some West Ham fans reacted to the news on Twitter…
