Some Chelsea fans are expecting their worst fears to come to fruition after new signing Hakim Ziyech was pictured with extensive strapping around his knee, while on international duty with Morocco.
The winger joined The Blues from Ajax in the summer, but is yet to play competitively for the side, due to suffering an injury on his Chelsea debut, a preseason friendly against Brighton.
Speaking in the build up to their last league outing against Crystal Palace, which they won 4-0 at Stamford Bridge, Frank Lampard had told the official Chelsea website, that Ziyech, though improving, was not fit enough to make the bench.
“Hakim Ziyech is getting closer but he’s not quite fit enough to be on the bench.”
Yet, despite the Englishman’s assessment, the midfielder was still selected by his national team, for international fixtures against Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Chelsea should take responsibility
Ziyech missed nine games overall for Ajax last campaign through injury, and Chelsea will be hoping to avoid a similar occurrence this time round.
The latest images have caused a stir on social media among Chelsea fans, with fears that his involvement with the national team could cause the injury to deteriorate, thus prolonging his absence on the sidelines.
Some fans took to Twitter to respond to the images, suggesting that Chelsea should have taken some accountability to prevent Ziyech from travelling with the Morocco squad.
Timo Werner woes
The Ziyech news has led to further fear among Chelsea fans, considering Germany’s announcement of Timo Werner’s absence for his country’s fixture against Turkey tonight.
The Chelsea striker faces a spell away from the pitch, having developed flu-like symptoms, according to Germany’s assistant manager Marcus Sorg in his press conference.
As quoted by Football.London, Sorg said, “Timo Werner has a slight cold and won’t join up with the team today.
“Several tests have been done, but the results are not in yet.”
As a result, his contention for games against Ukraine and Switzerland and his potential return to Chelsea also may be delayed.
