Gymnast Joe Fraser’s parents and girlfriend after the gymnast claimed the Commonwealth gold medal in the Men’s parallel bars final.

Joe Fraser has claimed gold in the Men’s parallel bars final at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. It’s the first time England has taken the title on parallel bars, with Giarnni Regini-Moran taking silver.

What we know about Joe Fraser’s parents

Joe Fraser lives with his parents Yvonne and Adrian in Birmingham. His mum is an accountant and his dad works as a dustcart driver.

Joe was born with six fingers on each hand and had to have an operation when he was three months old to have the extra fingers removed. Interestingly, his father was born with the same thing.

“It’s actually a Fraser trait,’ he told The Daily Mail. ‘My dad had it and his dad had it. My team-mates argue that is why I’ve got good grip strength!”

Joe competed at the 2020 Tokyo Games but due to the pandemic, his parents were forced to stay at home. Nevertheless, he stayed in regular contact with them throughout the Games.

“I love a good FaceTime, and I’ll be showing my mum and dad around the athletes’ village as soon as I arrive,” said Fraser.

“My whole family have been with me all the way and I want them to feel as much a part of it as I do.”

Joe started the sport when he was five years old and has been involved in it ever since.

“I had a pommel horse in my parents’ bedroom, which I’m sure they loved, and I had a set of rings which I tied to a tree at a local reservoir,” he told The Independent.

He is a proud trailblazer in gymnastics

Joe is the first Black Briton to win a world gold medal, and is proud to be a trailblazer.

“That meant a lot,’ he admitted. “To know that I might have been inspiring someone else that is young and wants to get into the sport fills me with a lot joy and happiness.

“Racism does happen and it is real. I feel relatively lucky that I haven’t experienced it too much but at the same time it shouldn’t be something that is considered normal.”

Meet Joe Fraser’s girlfriend, Tia

Joe Fraser’s girlfriend is Tia Nokes. At the Tokyo Games, he admitted Tia was still learning what the skills are called and why one routine scores more than another.

He has shared photos of Tia on Instagram before, including various holiday snaps.

Tia is on Instagram @tiaanoakes. She has been in Birmingham all week cheering on her boyfriend Joe. She shared a picture of herself watching him perform with the caption: ‘I have lived many proud moments but this one is up there with best.

‘To perform like that despite all the odds that was against us. YOU DID THIS. No tears left to cry now. Onto the finals @@joefraser1’.
