The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Wednesday they will run a fan promotion and jersey swap for kids. The ‘A+ marketing’ move comes after Ja Morant stared down a “disrespectful” young Warriors fan.
After beating the Lakers last week, Ja Morant led the Grizzlies to a big win on Tuesday night against the Golden State Warriors. The stand-out point guard finished with 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting as Memphis won 116-108.
However, talk after the game was about Ja Morant’s stare down with a young Warriors fan. Now comes a move labelled as ‘S-tier’ branding by the Grizzlies, they’re offering a jersey swap for fans.

Ja and ‘disrespectful’ Warriors fan
In the fourth quarter against the Warriors, Ja drove to the basket and finished off a tough lay-up, pretty much sealing the win for Memphis.
After making the shot, Ja turned to fans close by where he encountered a young fan wearing a Warriors jersey. With game-mode fully activated, Morant refused to high-five the kid. After the game, Ja Morant joked the fan had made a mistake by wearing the wrong jersey, saying: “He was disrespectful with that jersey on.”
However, Morant added he wanted to track down the young fan so he could send him a Memphis jersey. “Somebody find his information. I’ll send him one myself,” he said.
Grizzlies create jersey swap promotion for fans
On Wednesday, the Grizzlies, who clearly wanted to take advantage of the incident, announced a promotion where kids 12 and under can exchange any opposing player NBA jersey – adult or youth sizes – for a new Grizzlies Ja Morant or Jaren Jackson Jr replica.
In addition to the Grizzlies jersey, kids will receive a pair of plaza or pinnacle-level tickets to that night’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The plan is for all opposing player jerseys swapped at the event to be donated to charity.
The ‘New Year, New Jerseys’ promotion and jersey swap takes place on 13 January at 5pm local time in the Grand Lobby of FedExForum prior to the game.
Fans react to the ‘S-tier’ PR from the Grizzlies
People on social media caught wind of the Grizzlies’ promotion and joked it was an elite PR move. Popular NBA pundit Rob Perez said: “Grizzlies subtweeting those children with an actionable promotion is S-tier branding. Take a bow.”
Others fans were as equally as impressed by the Grizzlies’ PR machine:
