Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has given an injury update ahead of his side’s trip to face Everton.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference before facing the club he represented for seven years, Arteta spoke about four players.

Gabriel Martinelli, Pablo Mari, Calum Chambers and Shkodran Mustafi were all spoken about in positive terms.

It’s the Brazilian forward who might be the most exciting returning player, but Gabriel’s suspension means that the three centre halves mentioned cannot be ruled out in relation to playing at Everton tomorrow.

“There are players that are ended up the last phase of their rehab, like Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari who has already played some minutes in the Europa League. Mustafi as well,” said Arteta.

“Gabriel Martinelli is very close to being available and fit to be part of us as well, which is great news. Gabi is pure enthusiasm, energy, belief, charisma and goals.

“He’s around the training ground and he’s around our training sessions and the energy is different because he goes 100 miles per hour. He’s got this passion and his way of playing and he is a threat.

“He’s a player that we’ve been missing because he brings something special to the team. He’s contagious with his attitude and I think it’s going to be a big boost when we have him.”

Martinelli got his Arsenal career off to a hugely exciting start under Unai Emery before injury curtailed his progress.

With Arsenal struggling for goals and creativity, Martinelli’s return could not be better timed.

It remains likely that Arteta will manage his return from injury carefully but it seems he could be back in Premier League action sooner rather than later.
