Anna Nordqvist’s husband Kevin McAlpine was there cheering her on in his native Scotland.
McAlpine is a former Scottish amateur champion while his dad, Hamish McAlpine, is a legendary Scottish goalkeeper who played for Dundee United.
Speaking about her husband’s support at the event, Nordqvist said: “My caddie [Paul Cormack], he’s been working so hard and I really wanted to do it for him, too.
“My husband [Kevin McAlpine] has been supporting me so much, too, and all my friends and family, and having spectators back and feeling that adrenalin kicking again, I think this is definitely my most special win.”
She added: “I hate losing probably more than I like winning. I think all the controversy and all the downs, and having my caddie and husband there pushing me every day being a rock, I hate to give up.”
More on Kevin McAlpine
As well as being an amateur champion, Kevin McAlpine is a caddie who has worked with Lexi Thompson and Amy Yang on the PPGA Tour.
However, he is now the full-time caddie of PGA Tour competitor Martin Laird.
When asked about caddying for his wife Anna Nordqvist, he said: “I think Anna and I know it isn’t a great idea to have a working relationship.
“Not that it wouldn’t work, more that our personal relationship is more important and takes priority. If she was stuck and I wasn’t working, I would be more than happy to fill in.”
Anna and Kevin originally planned to get married in 2020 but were forced to wait until this year to tie the knot because of the pandemic.
They have been dating for about ten years.
