We take a look at Tom Weiskopf’s wife and children after the former Open champion and renowned course architect dies aged 79.

Former major champion Tom Weiskopf has died at the age of 79 according to multiple reports. Weiskopf was a 16-time winner on the PGA Tour, and won the 1973 Open.

The American was also four-time runner-up at The Masters – the most for any player who hasn’t won a green jacket.

Weiskopf played during the era of golf legends such as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, but was also known for his incredible work in course architecture.

He worked on Troon Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1986, which was named one of the best new courses by Golf Digest.  In total, Weiskpof worked on about 80 courses, including Loch Lomond in Scotland, and helped renovate the North Course at Torrey Pines.

What we know about Tom Weiskopf’s wife, Laurie

Tom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2020. He died on Saturday (August 20, 2022) at home in Big Sky Montana, with his wife, Laurie beside him.

Laurie Weiskopf recently said that Tom was declared cancer free late last year, but the disease came back in April.

“He really fought it for a long, long time, and he did so bravely,” Laurie said. “It was a shock, but not a surprise.”

Laurie has mostly kept out of the spotlight during Tom’s golf career and is not on any social media. The couple tied the knot in 1999 and did not have any children together. However, they did have a dog, Spanky, who Tom liked to go bird hunting with.

Weiskopf had two children from a previous relationship

Tom was previously married to Jeanne Weiskopf. The couple tied the knot in 1966 and got divorced in 1999 after 32 years of marriage.

Tom and his ex-wife Jeanne had two children together, Eric Weiskopf and Heidi Weiskopf. Heidi has two children, Hunter and Morgan, who are Tom’s grandchildren.

Tom’s son Eric was born on January 10, 1973 and attended Ohio State University and the University of Arizona.

Eric was an accomplished golfer himself, playing in the PGA Tour Father-Son Challenge five times with a best finish of third place. He even served as caddie for his father on the PGA Tour for two years.

Sadly, Eric died on June 25, 2021 aged 48.
