News broke this Sunday, 15 August 2021 that Gerd Müller has passed away at the age of 75.
Considered one of the greatest strikers of all time, Müller was part of the West Germany side that won the 1972 European Championship and 1974 World Cup.
“Today the world of FC Bayern stands still. The German record champions and its entire fan base mourn Gerd Müller who died early Sunday morning at the age of 75,” a Bayern Munich statement said.
Bayern president Herbert Hainer added: “Gerd Muller was the greatest striker there has ever been – and a fine person, a personality in world football. We are united in deep sorrow with his wife Uschi and his family.”
As the spotlight turns to Gerd Müller’s family, some confusion about whether he has a son or not has returned. This has been ongoing for years, with football fans mistakenly thinking Thomas Müller is Gerd’s son.
How many children does Gerd Müller have?
Gerd Müller and wife Uschi Ebenböck have one child, daughter Nicole Müller.
Gerd and Uschi married in 1967.
Nicole’s exact birth date is unknown, although there’s a picture of Nicole Müller as a baby captured in 1972, as seen below. If Nicole Müller was born around this time, she would be almost 50 years old as of publication date.

So, why do people think Thomas Müller is his son?
Football fans often mistake Gerd Müller to be the father of 31-year-old German footballer Thomas Müller.
This is probably because Thomas Müller’s father’s name is Gerhard Müller. They share the exact same name, given that “Gerd” is a nickname for Gerhard.
Thomas Müller also plays for Bayern Munich, cementing the connection between the two. This is the only ‘family’ they share, as they are in no way related.
