British businessman Sir Frank Williams passed away in hospital on Friday, 26 November 2021.
His Formula One team, Williams Racing, announced the sad news:
“The Williams Racing team is truly saddened by the passing of our founder Sir Frank Williams. Sir Frank was a legend and icon of our sport. His passing marks the end of an era for our team and for the sport of Formula One. He was one of a kind and a true pioneer.”
The South Shields-native founded the eponymous racing team in 1966 and stepped down as team principal in 2012, leaving his daughter to run the show.

Who are Frank Williams’ children?
Williams has two sons and a daughter with late wife Virginia.
Claire, born 21 July 1976 in Windsor, is 45 years old and was the deputy team principal of Williams Racing from 2012 to 2020, when the company was sold.
Sir Frank was involved in a car accident in 1986, which resulted in life-changing spinal injuries that left him wheelchair-bound. That didn’t prevent Sir Frank from leading his F1 team, although he started to scale back his duties from 2012 as his health deteriorated.
Claire Williams studied at Newcastle University and worked as a press officer in the Silverstone racing circuit. She joined the family business in 2002 as communications officer and eventually became director of marketing until stepping up to become deputy team principal.
She married sports agent Marc Harris in 2018 and their son, Nathaniel Louis Harris, was born on 10 October 2017.

Jonathan oversees Williams Heritage, the division that preserves and showcases the team’s collection of historic cars.
Heritage maintains and curates the Williams Grand Prix collection, as well as selling iconic cars dating from the team’s first F1 season in 1978 until the team ceased operations last year.
Jaime SF Williams
Not much is known about Jaime since he hasn’t pursued a career in the family business but he did talk to PitPass about his father’s legacy in 2019.
“I wouldn’t say it’s important for dad to be the longest-serving team boss in Formula One. He isn’t a man who dwells on his achievements. He will be thinking about what happens next, about the next grand prix.”
Jaime reportedly works at a London music advertising company and is married to Sophie. The couple welcomed their son Ralph on 28 October 2018.
Who was Frank Williams’ wife?
Williams met Lady Virginia ‘Ginny’ Williams in 1967 when she was working as a receptionist in London.
At the time her future husband was a struggling racing car driver and aspiring team owner but Ginny was dedicated to his dream. She even sold her Knightsbridge flat to fund the team’s early years.
They married in August 1974 and she was described as a huge support system for the F1 team boss. Virginia published memoir A Different Kind Of Life in 1991, revealing the sacrifices they made for Williams Racing to succeed.
The couple remained together until her death in March 2013 aged 66 following a two-year battle with cancer.
