Former Everton man Leon Osman says Carlo Ancelotti has a good dilemma after James Rodriguez looked impressive against Tottenham Hotspur, when speaking on Match of the Day.

Everton drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur on Friday night, but despite walking away with just one point; Leon Osman spotted something positive.

James Rodriguez played a more central role alongside Richarlison in Everton’s frontline.

This is something Osman seemingly want’s to see more of, with the Match of the Day pundit saying Carlo Ancelotti now has a dilemma.

The dilemma he means is how the Toffees manager gets Dominic Calvert-Lewin straight back into the side when returning.

Osman on Rodriguez

When speaking about Everton’s performance against Spurs on Match of the Day, Osman credited James Rodriguez for a lot of the positive actions in the match.

The pundit also loved the tactical change from Carlo Ancelotti; putting the Colombian more central:

“Yeah, it was much better from Everton in an attacking sense, Carlo Ancelotti said that himself.

“And it was largely down to, this man, James Rodriguez.

“He played in a much more central position, you know, he’s been operating off the right-hand side for large portions of the season for Everton.

“But putting him central, but putting him closer to Richarlison, putting him closer to Sigurdsson, just gave him a real energy, a real impetus about his performance.”

The Colombian to replace Calvert-Lewin?

When continuing to speak about the impact Rodriguez’s new position had, Osman also mentioned Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ancelotti’s potential dilemma:

“It just gave Everton a new lease of life that I haven’t seen in recent weeks.

“Dominic has been injured, he’s Everton’s central and main striker but Everton found something [Rodriguez playing central] they haven’t had in a while there.

“It’s a good dilemma for Carlo Ancelotti, to try and figure out a way to get him [Calvert-Lewin] back in the side.”

It’s unlikely that Calvert-Lewin would be dropped from Everton’s side.

The Englishman has scored 14 goals already this season and has even earned outings for England’s national team.

Of course, Rodriguez’s performances need to be praised and rewarded, but perhaps Ancelotti will find a way to play both of the players together.

The Colombian played next to Richarlison against Spurs, so why couldn’t he play alongside Calvert-Lewin?
