This year’s NCAA Tournament concludes its Sweet 16 round tonight, with a number of eye-catching match-ups. One of the more interesting ties sees the No.4 Providence Friars (27-5) take on the No.1 Kansas Jayhawks (30-6).

Providence Friars under Cooley
Ed Cooley has been Friars head coach since 2011. He was previously head coach at Fairfield University from 2006 to 2011.
Under his direction, Friars have made six NCAA Tournament appearances, losing in the second round for three straight seasons. However, Providence is on a roll in 2022 and their 28-point victory over Richmond in the previous round was the biggest in the school’s history.
It has been quite the week for Cooley. On 22 March he was named a finalist in the Jim Phelan National Coach Of The Year Award and the Ben Jobe National Coach Of The Year Award. He won the inaugural Ben Jobe National Coach Of The Year Award in 2010.

After making it to this year’s Sweet 16, Cooley said: “I’m very excited about the Big East to have a member in that field. I’m thinking about my kids, I’m thinking about the journey. I’m thinking about our staff. This is stuff you dream about. This is what March Madness is all about.”
After hearing his words, fans wanted to know more about Ed Cooley’s wife and children. The 52-year-old is married to Nurys Cooley, who is reportedly a former police officer who graduated with a degree from Providence in 2019. She also attended Boston College between 1984 and 1988.
Nurys was born Carmen Jimenez Medina on 30 May 1966 and has Puerto Rican heritage. Ed Cooley’s wife was at the recent Providence versus Richmond game, where a video of her emotional reaction at the final whistle went viral:
Ed and Nurys Cooley have a daughter, Olivia (born 2000), and a son, Isaiah (born 1997). Olivia graduated from Moses Brown in 2019 and currently attends Georgetown University, while Isaiah is a wellness associate at Herren Wellness in Providence, Rhode Island.

Ed Coooley’s Providence salary has been reported as $2,204,030 – but it’s also thought he earns an additional $200,000 to $700,000 in compensation.
His net worth has been estimated at between $2 million and $3 million.
