Some Liverpool fans couldn’t contain their excitement after learning the club is tracking Chelsea attacking midfielder Christian Pulisic, according to the Daily Mail.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also reportedly monitoring the situation surrounding Pulisic after Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel omitted the USA international from his starting XI again for their latest fixture.
Here’s how some Liverpool fans responded to the report on Twitter:
Not the American’s dream
Pulisic has yet to start a Premier League match since Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard, and he was left out of the starting XI against Everton on Monday.
His contribution was limited to a few touches of the ball during the game’s dying embers.
It has become an all too familiar pattern for a talented player who suddenly looks out in the cold following a change of management.
Dortmund days
However, it may be barking up the wrong tree to say Tuchel doesn’t rate the talents of Pulisic.
Their association began at Borussia Dortmund where they spent several years working together in the Bundesliga, with noted success.
But if Pulisic did jump ship to Liverpool, the 22-year-old would be united with another of his former Dortmund coaches, Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp offered the young attacker his Bundesliga breakthrough in first-team football when he was just 16.
Pulisic told 13&MEpodcast: “I’m just thankful to Jurgen Klopp he gave me that opportunity. I’ll take that with me forever and I’m really grateful.”
Red or Blue for Pulisic?
Chelsea signed Pulisic for £58 million (BBC Sport) in 2019, four years after Klopp took over at Anfield.
And the Blues would certainly be wary of selling an expensive asset to a main Premier League rival.
Liverpool, however, may look more fondly on a move, especially as their attacking trident has been blunt of late.
Pulisic may also find solace in a transfer, if game time continues to be limited at Stamford Bridge.
