Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told the club’s official website he’ll make a late decision regarding his squad selection for the Champions League encounter with Italian side Atalanta.

Liverpool have achieved six points from a possible six and sit at the top of Group D. They travel to Bergamo today to face the second-placed Serie A side on Tuesday night.

The Orobici made the quarter-finals of the Champions League in what was their debut campaign last season.

They are on an unbeaten run in the competition this term, having beaten Midtjylland and drawn with Ajax.

Injury update

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Klopp gave an update on injuries to Naby Keita, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara.

He said: “Naby and Joel trained yesterday with the team, full. Thiago didn’t – so that’s the situation.

“Yes, they trained, that’s good. It’s better than if they don’t train. But we have to see what we do with it.”

‘Another day’

Liverpool have struggled with key defensive absentees including high-profile injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho.

The side has kept just one clean sheet and conceded 15 goals, the most in the league this season.

However, Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips could also be in contention to play.

The former made his Champions League debut in a substitute appearance against Ajax, while the latter impressed on his league debut against West Ham on Saturday.

Klopp mentioned he would make use of the additional day to weigh up his options but suggested his decision could be made at a later stage.

“We have another day to make these decisions. A lot of players will be on the plane, hopefully, and so decisions will be made late, late, late.”
