Shubman Gill first-class career. With a Test debut against Australia on the cards, we take a look at the India batsman’s incredible numbers in domestic cricket.

Gill was born in Fazilka on 8 September 1999 and looked destined for big things from an early age. He scored 351 for Punjab U16s in an inter-district match in 2014.

The right-handed opener progressed through the age-group ranks before making his maiden first-class appearance against Bengal at Amritsar in November 2017.

His talent shone through immediately. He scored 63 of his team’s first innings total of 147, before adding 21 runs in the second innings.

Since then, Gill has accumulated 23 first-class appearances, ensuring he’s still relatively inexperienced.

However, his run-scoring has been prolific against the red ball.

The former India U19 star has scored 2,270 runs so far at an incredible average of 68.78.

He has notched seven centuries and 11 fifties to date, with a highest first-class career score of 268.

The majority of his runs have been scored in India. However, he toured New Zealand with India A in early 2020 and his two most recent first-class outings have come in Australia.

Gill struggled in the first tour match for the Indians against Australia A, falling for a duck before making just 29 in the second innings.

He adjusted to conditions quickly, though, and came back strongly in the second game. He cracked 16 fours and a six across scores of 43 and 65.

Shubman Gill will now be full of confidence ahead of a potential Test debut against the Aussies in Adelaide. If he comes close to replicating his first-class numbers in the Test arena, he’ll have an outstanding international career.
