The Russian-born mixed martial artist returns to the Octagon against Li Jingliang at UFC 267. Ahead of the fight, fans want to know what happened to Khamzat Chimaev’s lip.
Khamzat Chimaev returns for UFC 267
Khamzat Chimaev is one of the scariest men to ever step foot in the Octagon.
The Russian-born Swedish mixed martial artist and freestyle wrestler announced himself to the wider MMA world in 2020.
The welterweight/middleweight beat John Phillips in July before knocking out newcomer Rhys McKee just ten days later.
When he knocked out Gerald Meerschaert in 17 seconds at UFC Fight Night 178 in September, Khamzat entered the record books.
He reached a three fight win streak quicker than anyone in the history of the UFC (66 days).
Unfortunately for MMA fans, his plans were halted in December 2020 after contracting covid.
A fight with welterweight contender Leon Edwards was ultimately scrapped as the two both recovered from the virus.
However, Chimaev returns to the Octagon to face Li Jingliang on 30 October at UFC 267.
What happened to Khamzat Chimaev’s lip?
Chimaev is one of the most intriguing characters in the UFC, with this style and look often compared to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Khamzat is a man of very few words, preferring to let his knock-outs do the talking for him.
Understandably, though, fans want to know as much about the fighter as possible, including what happened to Khamzat Chimaev’s lip.
Chimaev has a notable scar on his lip, and many fans wondered if he had a a cleft lip.
However, this isn’t the case, as Khamzat Chimaev spoke about his lip in 2020.
He told Borz Team YouTube channel:”My mom told me this, but I don’t remember myself.
“I was 2 years old. We had a big stairs in our house and I fell down on concrete.
“I had ripped lip, my couple teeth knocked out and I broke my nose.
“My right nostril still doesn’t breathe.”
Israel Adesanya once mocked Chimaev’s lip
In 2020, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya mocked Khamzat Chimaev’s lip.
“I don’t even know the guy, I haven’t seen his fights yet,” the UFC star told Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports.
“I saw the presser and he was just talking s**t. He was just casting his net. Have you seen him fight? Rat lip? Meh.”
Chimaev responded in typically cold fashion, saying on Twitter: “What do you said about me it will cost you your belt if you’re still the champion Good luck.”
