Victoria Lee, “The Prodigy” of women’s mixed martial arts (MMA), has passed away, her family confirmed in a statement.

The ONE Women’s Atomweight MMA athlete died on December 26, 2022 at the age of 18. As of yet, no cause of death has been confirmed by the family.

Lee’s elder sister, Angela, confirmed the news on Saturday, January 7. “She has gone too soon and our family has been completely devastated since then,” Angela Lee wrote in a statement to Instagram.

Angela Lee, like Victoria, is well known on the MMA scene. But more members of the Lee family have also ended up in this profession.

Victoria Lee was one of several MMA fighters in the family

Late MMA fighter Victoria Lee was one of several athletes in her family. Born May 17, 2004, Victoria followed in the footsteps of her elder siblings, who are professional MMA fighters.

Angela Seung Ju Pucci, known professionally as Angela Lee, is the eldest. Angela was born on July 8, 1996 in Vancouver, Canada and is currently 26 years old. She became the youngest person ever to win a MMA world title, securing the belt on May 5, 2016, at the age of 19. She earned the ONE Women’s Atomweight Title, the category her younger sister would go on to compete in.

Christian Lee is the second eldest, born June 21, 1998. Christian, now 24, competes in Featherweight, Lightweight, and Welterweight divisions in ONE Championship. He is the reigning ONE Welterweight world champ, as well as the current and two-time ONE Lightweight world champ.

They have a younger brother, named Adrian, who is a four times national champ and six times world champ in youth MMA.

Who are Victoria Lee’s parents?

Victoria Lee and her siblings are born to Ken and Jewelz Lee. Their father, Ken, is Chinese-Singaporean and their mother, Jewelz, was born in South Korea but holds Canadian citizenship. While Angela and Christian were born in Vancouver, Canada, the Lee family relocated to Hawaii when they were young. This is where Victoria and Adrian Lee were born.

It comes as no surprise that all four Lee children pursued careers in mixed martial arts. Their parents, Ken and Jewelz, were martial artists.

Ken Lee has coached martial arts since 1996. He holds black belts in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, pankration and taekwondo, now utilizing his expertise to run United MMA gym in Waipahu, Hawaii. Jewelz Lee is a two-time Canadian silver medalist, also holding a black belt in taekwondo. Jewelz specializes in training young students at United MMA.

In 2019, Bleacher Report announced that the Lee family are primed to become “MMA’s Next Great Dynasty.”

Victoria Lee’s family ‘will never be the same’

On Saturday, January 7, nearly two weeks after Victoria Lee’s sudden death, her sister confirmed the family’s tragic news in a statement to Instagram.

“She has gone too soon and our family has been completely devastated since then,” Angela wrote. “We miss her. More than anything in this world. Our family will never be the same. Life will never be the same.”

“Each and every little thing makes me think of you. From the sun rays, to the sunset. You taught us to see the beauty in the simple things. You were our bright light. Our sunshine. And that will never change.”

Tributes to Victoria Lee

As news of Victoria Lee’s death is confirmed this month, a number of fans and friends have taken to social media to pay homage, as well as offer support to the Lee family.

“The passing of Victoria Lee is devastating. All my love to her friends & family, heartbreaking to lose such a young and talented fighter,” one fan tweeted.

Nicholas Atkin, MMA reporter, wrote of the late Victoria Lee: “I’ve got no doubt Victoria Lee would have been a world champion in ONE. Rest in peace, Prodigy.”

“I spent with the Lee family last year in Hawaii. To hear such an incredible talent lose their life at 18 is [heartbreaking],” Anatomy Of A Fighter creator Will Harris tweeted.

Our thoughts are with Victoria Lee’s family and friends during this difficult time.
