The day before, paramedics were called to a hotel room where Colt Brennan had been with other people. Terry Brennan said his son had ingested something laced with fentanyl and never regained consciousness.

Colt Brennan had recently tried to enter a detox program at an area hospital, but he was turned away because there were no beds available.

“He was doing so well, the spark was back in his eyes, and he was healthy and doing great, and it happened,” Terry Brennan said.

“Obviously, someone gave him a pain pill of some sort, but it was Fentanyl, according to what we’re understanding,” Terry Brennan said. “We’re still a long way from figuring it out. That’s where we are right now.”

Brennan had a well-documented history of alcohol and drug abuse. He had been arrested multiple times between 2012 and 2020, including for felony drug charges and drunk driving, as reported by Hawaii News Now.

He had a love of Bob Marley

Brennan was surrounded by family members when he died.

“He went peacefully,” Terry Brennan said. “He listened to Bob Marley. His sisters had a lei around him when he was unconscious. They had the music of Bob Marley playing near his ear.”

Colt often uploaded posts to social media sharing his love for reggae music and Bob Marley himself.
