McKenzie Milton returns after devastating injury
McKenzie Milton made an emotional college football comeback on Sunday night against Notre Dame.
The Florida State quarterback has not played football in over 1000 days after sustaining a catastrophic leg injury three years ago.
The injury occurred against South Florida in November 2018. Milton suffered artery and nerve damage, as well as a dislocated knee and torn ligaments.
It is one of the most devastating injuries in the sport’s history and Milton very nearly had his leg amputated as a result.
It was an emotional moment when Milton entered the game in the fourth quarter against Notre Dame.
He helped Florida State come back from a 10-point deficit to force overtime. However, Notre Dame managed to secure the 41-38 win.
Social media was full of praise for the quarterback and celebrated his return.
Who are McKenzie Milton’s parents?
Milton had 75 friends and family at the game, including his orthopedic surgeon, UCF director of sports medicine/head football athletic trainer Mary Vander Heiden and UCF orthopedic surgeon Dr. Michael Jablonski.
“A lot of people would’ve written me off, so thank you to everyone who’s believed in me. To me, we’re just starting,” Milton said.
McKenzie Milton’s parents, girlfriend and brothers were also there, as well as many people from his native Hawaii.
McKenzie Milton’s parents are Mark and Teresa Milton, and he is the youngest of four sons.
Matt, Michael, and Pomi are his three brothers.
Watching from the sidelines, McKenzie’s mother, Teresa, said it was a “miracle” her son was playing.
“I was really happy for him, but I was scared,” she added.
“His surgeon, his physical therapist, everyone, his trainers, were all in the aisles right here crying.
His brother Michael Milton, said: “I don’t care if he plays another snap ever again,”.
“Just seeing him play football again was just awesome. I came out here two months after his surgery, and from there to now is just incredible. I couldn’t do what he’s done.”
Who is McKenzie Milton’s girlfriend?
McKenzie Milton’s girlfriend is Alennix Merejo.
The couple met while Alennix was studying sports training at UCF.
She now works at Jacksonville State University.
After Milton’s injury in 2018, Merejo ended up spending seven nights in a chair next to Milton’s hospital bed.
They are currently unmarried but it is believed they plan to tie the knot soon.
