Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz are available for selection for Chelsea’s Champion’s League match at Rennes tonight, as reported by the BBC.

Both players missed out on Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Newcastle at the weekend. The victory saw the Blues rise to third in the Premier League table.

Chelsea could qualify for the last-16 with victory at Roazhon Park, which would extend their winning run to six games.

Victory, coupled with anything other than success for Krasnodar at home to Sevilla, will see the Blues safely through. Even two draws would probably be enough given head-to-head results.

Back from Brazil

Silva arrived back in England on Thursday after playing for Brazil during the international break.

The 36-year old captained Brazil in both games as they beat Venezuela and Uruguay in World Cup qualifying fixtures.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard chose to leave Silva out of the squad at the weekend, which saw Antonio Rudiger play in defence instead.

The experienced Silva has impressed since his arrival on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain in the summer.

Silva was part of the PSG side that were beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League final last season in Lisbon.

One more back for Chelsea

Havertz, meanwhile, tested positive for coronavirus earlier this month after experiencing symptoms and has had to self-isolate.

As a result, the midfielder has missed Chelsea’s last three games and international action for Germany.

The 21-year-old could be in line to make his first appearance since 31 October, when the Blues beat Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moor.

The young German has enjoyed a good start to his Chelsea career, with four goals and three assists in ten games in all competitions.

Rennes, meanwhile, have more Ligue 1 points at this stage of the season than in any campaign since 2017. However, the club slipped from third to eighth at the weekend.

Centre-back Daniele Rugani remains sidelined, while attacking left-back Dalbert is suspended after his red card in London.

Lampard will hope his side can maintain their good form going into the derby clash with Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
