It’s been a frustrating season for Celtic and manager Neil Lennon. The club currently sit 16 points behind leaders and fierce rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

The two clubs go head to head on January 2 in the second Old Firm derby of the campaign, with Steven Gerrard’s men winning the first encounter 2-0 at Celtic Park back in October.

Celtic’s ambition, therefore, of ten successive league titles looks almost certain to be scuppered by an uncharacteristic season on the pitch.

Lennon will be eager to right those wrongs in January. Here are three potential recruits that could help turn the club’s season around.

Patrick Roberts

A name that Celtic fans are very familiar with and indeed hugely fond of. The winger won three league titles and two Scottish Cups during a previous loan spell at Parkhead.

According to the Glasgow Times, Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock has told the 23-year-old he is free to leave the club in January.

With star winger James Forrest currently sidelined with an ankle injury, it really could be a match made in heaven for both Roberts and Celtic.

Fraser Forster

Another potential reunion comes in the form of goalkeeper Forster, who also has a successful history with the Glasgow outfit.

The England shot-stopper won several trophies in a four year spell at Celtic Park a decade ago, before returning last season on loan for another successful campaign.

But he is yet to make an appearance for Southampton this time around. Forster could, therefore, be the player called upon to solve Celtic’s current goalkeeper crisis.

Bright Osayi-Samuel

Another potential addition on the wing is QPR star Osayi-Samuel. The talented attacker is entering the final six months of his contract with his current club.

The 22-year-old is also wanted by Belgian side Bruges and Celtic’s fierce rivals Rangers. But he remains Lennon’s number one target, as reported by the Daily Record.

The youngster has been a regular at the Championship outfit this season, with three goals and three assists from his 20 appearances.
