US Olympic gold-medal swimmer Caeleb Dressel helped Cali Condors to the International Swimming League (ISL) title in Budapest on Saturday. But who is Caeleb Dressel’s girlfriend, Meghan Haila? Here’s everything you need to know about the young couple.
Who is Caeleb Dressel’s girlfriend?
Dressel is currently dating none other than former Florida State University (FSU) swimmer Meghan Haila.
The couple have been together for several years, according to Team USA. The Floridian natives met in their teens, while swimming for the Bolles School Sharks and stayed in touch after graduating, despite attending separate universities.
Dressel went to University of Florida and represented the Florida Gators, while Haila represented the FSU’s Seminoles.
While attending Creekside High School, Meghan Haila was Florida 3A State Champion in 100 metres breaststroke, one of two state championship titles she held in the category, according to Swim Swam.
The couple have been dating since 2013 and got engaged on 30 November 2019.
According to her Instagram bio, Meghan is interested in psychology and is training to be a marriage and family therapist.
Dressel’s journey to Olympic gold
Dressel is 6ft 3in (1.91m) and weighs 194lbs (88kg). He specialises in butterfly and freestyle.
Aged 15, he was the youngest male swimmer to compete in the 2012 US Olympic trials. He recorded a time of 19.82 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle relay. That made him the first swimmer under 16 to complete the race in less than 20 seconds.
Dressel went on to win two Olympic gold medals in the 2016 Rio games. They came in the 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay and 4 x 100 metre medley relay.
He has won 15 medals in the Long Course World Championships, 13 of them gold, and six gold medals in the Short Course World Championships.
He broke two world records in the space of an hour on Saturday as he helped the Condors to the ISL championship with a score of 561.5 points.
Dressel cut the previous 100 metre butterfly world record of 48.08 seconds to 47.78. In doing so, he became the first man to complete the 100 metres butterfly in less than 48 seconds.
He then broke his own 50 metre freestyle world record, lowering the time from 20.24 seconds to 20.16.
Dressel is active on Instagram, where he often shares snippets of his life in and out of the water, using the handle @caelebdressel.
