West Ham United supporters wanted to show their appreciation for Issa Diop after his goalscoring display against Sheffield United last night.
The Hammers moved up to fifth place after they beat the Blades 3-0 at the London Stadium.
Declan Rice opened the scoring with a 41st minute penalty which was his first goal of the season.
Diop powerfully headed home a second just shy of the hour mark on only his fourth Premier League start of the 2020/21 campaign.
STEVEN GERRARD TO ASTON VILLA IS WRONG.
Ryan Fredericks scored in the 96th minute to grab just the fourth senior goal of his career.
Some West Ham fans wanted to praise Diop’s performance on Twitter.
Diop took his chance
It was a rare outing for the 24-year-old who has largely played second fiddle to Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson this term.
The pair are David Moyes’ first choice centre-back partnership but Ogbonna picked up a nasty ankle injury against Manchester United earlier this month.
Diop was drafted in for that match but had to be removed at half time following a head collision.
Any lingering doubts were wiped clean after he cannoned the ball into United’s net.
The Frenchman will probably have a large part to play from now until Ogbonna’s return.
Aiming for Europe?
It’s good to see Diop getting back to his best. He made 35 appearances last term, mainly next to the man he is currently replacing – Ogbonna.
West Ham will need everyone to be firing on all cylinders if they’re to continue their assault on the European places.
They are level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea, who are only above them by goal difference. With Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Leeds United lying in wait, Diop’s revival couldn’t be timelier.
