President Trump’s senior advisor and speechwriter Stephen Miller just tested positive for the coronavirus. How is his family handling the news? Is Stephen Miller’s wife Katie pregnant? If yes, how would covid potentially affect the pregnancy?

Earlier this week, Mr Trump announced he has covid. Since then, many people in his inner circle and White House staff have also tested positive for the virus, including Kellyanne Conway, Hope Hicks, Senator Mike Lee, Melania Trump and now senior advisor Stephen Miller.

The novel coronavirus seems to be spreading around the White House at breakneck speed. What does this mean for staff’s families?

Who is Stephen Miller’s wife?

Formerly Katie Walden, Katie Miller is Mike Pence’s press secretary. She works closely with Pence and other White House officials. She has recently been in Salt Lake City with Pence, as he prepares to debate Biden’s Vice Presidential candidate, Kamala Harris. However, Miller returned home as soon as she heard about her husband’s positive test result.

Is Stephen Miller’s wife pregnant?

Katie Miller announced she was pregnant in May this year, although she has subsequently been quiet about her pregnancy. Stephen and Katie got married in February and this is their first child together.

The Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists have stated that: “There is no evidence that pregnant women are more likely to get seriously ill from coronavirus but pregnant women have been included in the list of people at moderate risk as a precaution.”

Who at the White House has tested positive for covid?

Both Katie and Stephen have tested positive for covid. Katie contracted covid in early May, a worrying time for Mike Pence, who had been in direct contact with her. However, Pence’s test later came back negative and Katie Miller recovered and returned to work at the end of May.

Stephen Miller has announced he had a positive covid test and released the statement: “Over the last 5 days I have been working remotely and self-isolating, testing negative every day through yesterday. Today, I tested positive for Covid-19 and am in quarantine.”

This continues the worrying trend of White House officials becoming infected with the coronavirus.

Stephen Miller’s role at the White House

Stephen Miller is Trump’s close advisor and writes many of the president’s speeches. He is supposed to have played a key part in the creation of the slogan “America First” and also supports Trumps controversial immigration measures. He is one of Trump’s longest-standing advisors, having worked on his election campaign in 2016.

The covid situation in America is spiralling. There have been over seven million recorded cases of coronavirus and 215,849 recorded deaths.

However, Trump recently tweeted that he felt in great health after being hospitalised for coronavirus. He has asked Americans “not to be afraid of covid”, although there have been reports that the president is not out of the woods yet. Trump also plans to debate Biden next week, despite doctors’ warnings about the risk of spreading the virus.

The White House is just a small microcosm and example of the infectious nature of covid-19. This can serve as a poignant example of just how easily this virus can spread if we let our guard down.
