The news that Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard’s representatives have started contract talks with the club has brought some excitement to the supporters.

Neil Lennon revealed over the weekend that he believes the Frenchman remains happy at the club. That has led the club to kickstart talks that will help tie him to Parkhead for “at least another season”, according to Lennon (Sky Sports).

Not surprisingly, this has led to plenty of Celtic supporters voicing their delight at the situation on social media. Here’s a look at some of their reactions:

A game-changer of the highest order

It’s no secret that Celtic’s mission statement is to develop players before moving them on for a large profit. In any other year, Edouard would more than likely be off this summer having spent three full years at Parkhead.

But this isn’t any season. This is the potential 10-in-a-row season. Celtic will be looking to pull out all of the stops to get a deal done and retain their best players. Edouard is one of, if not the best, raw talent the club has.

Yet, in order for Celtic to gain a substantial profit for his services next summer, an extension must be agreed. Edouard only has two years remaining on his current deal (Tranfermarkt). So whilst even on his current deal Celtic can still rebuff all offers – they’re unlikely to net the same fee for him next summer with just a year left on his contract.

A one-year extension would give the Hoops that vital security. And the fact that Edouard’s representatives have started talks is also key. That shows a willingness to listen to the club’s offer. There’s a window of opportunity there for Celtic in that Edouard must clearly be open to staying for the 10.

Make no mistake – this would be like a new signing. A player Celtic wouldn’t have thought they could’ve kept beyond this summer. A player who banged home 27 goals and obtained 19 assists in all competitions last season (Transfermarkt).

If a contract extension is revealed by the club in the coming weeks, they will take one massive step to 10-in-a-row before a ball is even kicked.
