What happened to Vic Fangio’s nose? The Denver Broncos head coach was pictured with a bandaged nose following his side’s narrow 31-30 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, leading fans to speculate on his injury.

The Broncos’ win saw them bounce back from their emphatic 43-16 defeat to Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend.

Yet, despite the triumph, the question on several journalists’ – and many fans’ – lips was, “what happened to Fangio’s nose”?

What happened to Vic Fangio’s nose?

The Broncos tactician appeared to be wearing a clear face-shield, part of the NFL’s personal protective equipment (PPE) protocol, in the first half of the encounter.

Fangio’s shield was reportedly removed in the second half of the match and replaced by a cloth mask. Many fans also saw blood on the coach’s clothing, leading to suspicions of a potential bust-up during half time.

‘Big nose got in the way’?

According to reports from Athletic NFL journalist Nick Kosmider, what happened to Fangio’s nose is the coach took a knock in the face following an interception thrown by quarter-back Drew Lock.

Those reports were echoed by Broncos correspondent Aric DiLalla and fellow Athletic journalist Lindsay Jones, who claimed the coach was without two key members of his backroom staff.

The Broncos’ season so far

The win against the Chargers saw the Broncos improve their record after seven matches to three wins and four defeats for the season.

The win ensured they remain third in the NFL’s American Football Conference West standings. It also condemned the Chargers to their fifth loss of the term.

The side have improved a great deal since the start of the campaign. They lost all three of their opening matches against the Tennessee Titans, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

They earned their first victory of the season against the New York Jets, winning 38-27. Fangio’s men continued their winning-run against six-time Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots, before losing to the Chiefs.

Currently, coach Vic Fangio has won ten and lost 13 matches at the helm of the Broncos since taking over in January 2019.
