Watt has been with the Texans for a decade and in that time has won three NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards.
Watt posted a video on Twitter to his 5.5. million followers, saying: “I have sat down with the McNair family and I have asked them for my release and we have mutually agreed to part ways at this time.”
He then described his bittersweet feelings about leaving the team: “Now I can’t imagine my life without Texas in it. The way that you guys have treated me, besides draft night. I mean, you guys booed me on draft night. But every day after that, you treated me like family. And I truly feel like you’re my family.”

JJ Watt’s wife, Kealia, was born on 31 January 1992 in Utah. Her father, Ben, is Hawaiian and Kealia is named after Kealia beach in Kauai.
Her mother, Cindy, is of Native American descent and she encouraged Kealia and her sister, Megan, to pursue their dreams as athletes.
Kealia attended Alta High School in Draper, Utah where she first became interested in soccer. As a teenager, she won the Gatorade state player of the year twice along with a plethora of other of championships.
After her successful stint in college, Kealia began her processional career with Houston Dash in which she has seen great success.
JJ Watts and his future wife Kealia started dating in 2016 but didn’t make it public until 2018 when Kealia revealed they were a couple on the 2 Up Front podcast.
The couple were married in the Bahamas in 2020. In a Twitter post, JJ said that was the “best day of [his] life. Without question.”
