Tyler The Creator’s hotly anticipated new album Call Me If You Get Lost arrived today, featuring what appears to be a new character, Tyler Baudelaire, or Sir Baudelaire. So, what’s the meaning of Tyler’s new name, Sir Tyler Baudelaire?

What is the meaning of Tyler Baudelaire?

Seven hours ago, Tyler The Creator tweeted the name of his new album’s first song, Sir Baudelaire, all in caps.

Given the consistency of the promotional material that preceded the album’s launch, fans and commentators alike have speculated that Tyler Baudelaire is the latest of Tyler’s character creations.

Who is Yler Baudelaire?

A year-old Reddit post in the subreddit r/tylerthecreator posed the question, “who the f*** is Yler Baudelaire?”

The question refers to the name attached to the Instagram handle @scumf***flowerboy, which the OP of the above Reddit post claims is run by Tyler himself.

As one commenter correctly points out, Tyler Baudelaire may well be a reference to Charles Baudelaire, a prominent French poet, essayist and art critic, who lived from 1821 to 1867.

Charles Baudelaire was among the first to translate the prose works of Edgar Allen Poe into French.

However, Tyler may have had other associations or meanings in mind regarding his latest character’s surname, Baudelaire.

How many characters has Tyler had?

Born 1991, Tyler The Creator (real name: Tyler Gregory Okonma) is an accomplished visual artist, designer and comedian, as well as an award-winning rapper.

This versatility also manifests in the creation of multiple personas and nicknames.
