Tamara Powell followed in her brother’s footsteps to pursue music

Music runs in the Powell family, as Jesse was not the only Powell sibling to find success in the music industry. His younger sisters, Tamara and Trina, joined forces in the late 1990s to perform in an R&B duo titled Trina & Tamara. Their debut album was released in 1999.

Jesse Powell had his start in the industry earlier, releasing his debut album in 1996. He had been signed by Louil Silas to Silas Records three years prior, having been discovered at an artist showcase.

Jesse released four albums throughout his career: Jesse Powell (1996), ‘Bout It (1998), JP (2001), and Jesse (2003).

Jesse’s sister Tamara secured a Grammy win

While Tamara Powell was not nominated for a Grammy while performing with her sister Trina, Tamara was nominated in 2007 for her work on “Family Affair”. This cover version of Sly and the Family Stone’s hit 1971 song secured the Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Tamara Powell earned Grammy recognition for her work on the cover track, alongside John Legend, Joss Stone and Van Hunt.
