Halloween this year was a different affair, with lock-downs imminent and coronavirus preventing large gatherings. However, this didn’t stop people dressing up and creating elaborate getups – like Swae Lee’s super-creative Halloween costume.
Who is Swae Lee?
Swae Lee was born on 7 June 1993 and is 27 years old. Lee is a musician most well known for his work as one half of duo Rae Sremmurd (pronounced Ray-Shrim-er) and is part of the pair alongside his brother Slim Jxmmi.
Lee was born in California but moved to Tupelo, Mississippi, and grew up in the Ida Street projects, which are well known as having some of the highest crime rates in the state.
Due to the subsequent split of their parents, brothers Lee and Jxmmi ended up seeking shelter on the streets. Lee taught himself to make music, record beats and DJ and eventually got a record deal through hard work and perseverance.
Swae Lee’s solo work
Lee dropped a new single – Back 2 Back Maybach – in February to tease his second solo album. His other solo work includes a first album, Swaecation or SR3MM, as well as a collaboration with French Montana called Unforgettable and another with Post Malone called Sunflower, which was featured on the Into The Spider-verse Movie soundtrack. Each track has more than one billion streams on Spotify.
Swae Lee’s new album is called Human Nature. He told Billboard: “I’m breaking all the rules [and] I’m breaking all the boundaries. I’m making my own song formats and doing some production on there.
“I’m just doing what sounds good to the ear. People know me for a certain style so I’m just giving them styles they didn’t even know I could do. Sonically, I’m scientific with it. I’m creating moods with my next album.”

Swae Lee decided to dress up as anime character Rock Lee as the pair share the same surname. Rock Lee is a shinobi, or ninja, who appears in the Japanese manga Naruto.
However, Rock Lee is seen not to have all the natural attributes of a ninja so makes up for this with alternative training, becoming a refined taijutsu master. He is known as being the ultimate ‘nice guy’.
The reactions from fans on Twitter were wildly positive. With many crediting Swae Lee for bringing Rock Lee to the spotlight and highlighting his many upright and moral characteristics.
