Chicago rapper Muwop is in the news today (Thursday, 14 October) after being arrested with other alleged members of the O-Block crew C Murda, Kenny, C Thang and Los. Following the reports, fans are curious to know who Muwop is – his age, real name, career and more as we follow this ongoing story.
Who is Muwop?
Music fans may be familiar with the artist’s name through 2020 track Muwop by Latto featuring Gucci Mane. While the song’s title is the same as the rapper’s name, the two are unrelated.
Muwop has also built a following on Instagram under the handle @muwopfrmdao, where he currently has 280,000 followers as he shares behind-the-scenes snaps of his rap career.

How old is Muwop?
Muwop is 22 years old and celebrated his most recent birthday on 4 January.
As he celebrated turning 22 this year he posted a series of snaps of his birthday outfit, which included a Louis Vuitton designer belt, to his 280,000 followers on Instagram
Captioning the outfit snaps, the Chicago rapper wrote: “Happy 22nd birthday to the young King.”

Rapper’s career explored
During the past year the rapper has also released a number of singles including Built Like That, Nobody Move and Spin It, which have also been accompanied by music videos.
His most recent single, For Real, dropped in August and, while thanking fans for their support, Muwop hinted at another project in the pipeline.
In a post on Instagram, he said: “500k viewers on @youtube almost 50k streams on @spotify and 100k+ plays on @applemusic 70k subscribers on YouTube. Keep subscribing to my channel, keep streaming Spotify, and Apple Music love all my supports for dropping one more single then it’s project time.”
Why is Muwop in the news?
WTTW reported the US Attorney’s Office had charged Charles “C Murda” Liggins, Kenneth “Kenny” Roberson, Tacarlos “Los” Offerd, Christopher “C Thang” Thomas and Marcus “Muwop” Smart with committing murder in aid of racketeering.
The five men are accused of being members of the O-Block street gang and of killing Carlton Weekly, a rapper also known as FBG Duck, in the Gold Coast last year.
US attorney John Lausch said during a press conference on Wednesday, 13 October: “If this gives pause to somebody who might think it’s a cool thing to do, to get on video, to bring out some guns, to talk about how I’m gonna shoot somebody, we’re doing something good.”
