What Happened at WE Fest 2022?

Drawing up to 55,000 fans a day, WE Fest was cancelled because of severe weather.

Minnesota is known for some of the most varied weather in the US because of its location in the Upper Midwest. Local radio station WJON FM warned festival-goers: “Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible from 6pm to 11pm on Friday. The main hazards are 1.75in hail, 70mph wind gusts, and localized flash flooding.”

Heavy wind, rain, thunder and lightning were due to hit the area and festival-goers were asked to return to their campsite or vehicles to wait the storm out in a safe place.

Miranda Lambert’s WE Fest appearance cancelled last minute

Even though Miranda Lambert got to the festival early enough to avoid the stormy weather, she didn’t get the chance to headline.

The severe weather was a cause for concern as WE Fest’s management made the tough decision to cancel Miranda’s slot to ensure festival-goers’ safety.

“When you have lemons you get lemonade. It really ended up being a real team-building experience for our security team and management team because we had to work so closely with such hard decisions to make,” Mark Bjerke, general manager of WE Fest, told Valley News Live.

“Miranda Lambert was such a trooper. She sat in her bus until midnight. She was ready to go and prepped. Her band was ready to go. Unfortunately, authorities made the call and we just couldn’t.”

Fans’ disappointment at the cancellation of Lambert’s headline slot led her to release this statement:

One fan commented: “Drove to Canada to see her… she canceled. WE Fest weather… canceled. Guess I’m not meant to see Miranda.”

Another wrote” “We were soooooo bummed!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭”
