Initially launching into the music scene back in 2015, K-pop’s most popular girl-group appears to be disbanding, and GFRIEND mega fan Lil Uzi Vert is devastated.

Although it may seem unlikely that a heavily-tattooed American rapper with a $24 million pink diamond implanted on his forehead would like a six-piece South Korean girl group, he really, really does.

Lil Uzi Vert professed his love for the band in September 2015, tweeting: “I Love Gfriend …..Kpop. ++++great dance moves Beautiful Voices.”
GFRIEND’s agency, Source Music, released a statement on Weverse on 18 May, confirmed that the band are going their separate ways.
They have not renewed their contract with Source Music and, as a result, it will expire on May 22nd.
Lil Uzi Vert appeared to change his Instagram account to private in reaction to the news. In a live video on the site, which appears to have been made last night, he said: “Everybody knows my favourite K-pop group is GFRIEND.
“I don’t care whatever happens, I don’t care if they breaking up, I don’t care if they stop making music, I don’t care if you don’t know who GFRIEND is, I don’t care if you think they older than what they are, I don’t care if you think they’re not real people, I don’t care, GFRIEND! K-pop!”

There are even online theories that the artist has GFRIEND tattoo.
Lil Uzi Vert worked on Detective Pikachu movie
The rapper’s interest in Asia runs deep. He even writes in his Instagram bio that he is “Asian on the inside.”
He even features in the motion picture Pokemon Detective Pikachu, released in 2019 and directed by Rob Letterman. He rapped in Electricity by Japanese pop group, Honest Boyz.
The song includes an English verse from Vert about the different types of Pokemon, putting an emphasis on Electric, according to Screen Rant.
Twitter reaction to Lil Uzi Vert’s GFRIEND meltdown
Before the rapper came out with his Instagram live rant about the GFRIEND split, people already knew he wouldn’t be happy.
“That poor Lil Uzi Vert really going through it after gfriend announcing their disbandment,” one person wrote, referencing the fact that the rapper changed his Instagram account to private after the band’s split.

Another person was concerned about his reaction, writing: “Y’all gfriend’s disbanding has anyone checked up on lil uzi vert?”
In a similar vein, another person said: “Lil Uzi vert Gon be crying in his bed tonight knowing that gfriend didn’t renew their contract.”
