It has just been announced that musicians Mpura and Killer Kau passed away in a car accident late last night. Tributes are pouring in on social media remembering the South African stars. We take a look at their music careers as well as the events surrounding their death.
Who are Killer Kau and Mpura?
Killer Kau and Mpura are both successful South African musicians.
Mpura became successful as the amapiano genre expanded, with hits such as Umsebenzi Wethu gaining over 2 million streams on Spotify. He also founded the fashion brand Mpura Designs.
Killer Kau, also known as Sakhile Hlatshwayo, was from Soweto, Gauteng.
His biggest hits are Amaneighbour and Sandton which have 975k and 136k streams on Spotify. Kau began to gain traction after he went viral with a video of him joking around with his friends.

Killer Kau and Mpura involved in car accident
According to TshisaLIVE the musicians died in a car accident while they were on their way to a gig in Rustenburg.
However, at this moment there has been little else shared about this tragic incident. Entertainment blogger Kgopolo reported that five people died in total in this accident.
This included Mpura, Killer Kau, Khanya Hadebe and Thando Tot.

Fans of Mpura and Killer Kau have taken to social media to share their respects for the late musicians.

Fellow musician Kabza De Small posted on his Twitter account about the passing of his two friends.
There was a rumour circulating that he had been in the car accident at the same time as Mpura and Killer Kau. However, he confirmed to his followers that he was alive and well.
