Kanye new album DONDA revealed at listening party
Kanye West has had a tumultuous year in 2021, mostly due to his very public divorce with Kim Kardashian.
However, the rapper has got back to doing what he does best, with his new album DONDA arriving on 23 July.
DONDA is an ode to Kanye’s late mother Donda West, and is the rapper’s 10th studio album.
West debuted the album at a listening party at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Atlanta on Thursday, with collaborations including Travis Scott, Pusha T, and Jay-Z.
One line in particular, though, caught the attention of both basketball and music fans alike.
West shouts out NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo
NBA players getting shouted out in rap songs is not exactly a new thing.
West himself has shouted out the likes of LeBron and Dwayne Wade on 2011’s Watch the Throne, and more recently J Cole paid homage to Damian Lillard and Ja Morant on his new album The Off-Season.
West has continued that tradition on DONDA, shouting out newly crowned NBA Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo on the track Junya.
The lyric that’s featured on DONDA goes, “Let me be honest, I run with the Bucks boy, lemme Giannis.”
Twitter reacts to the shout out, mocks Drake
The Milwaukee Bucks only won the NBA Championship on Tuesday night, yet Kanye has still managed to squeeze in a line about Giannis.
The two-time MVP scored 50 points in a close-out Game 6 and was rightly awarded the Finals MVP.
Twitter reacted to the speed of Kanye’s writing on Junya, as well as the fact he beat Drake, a known lover of rhyming NBA players’ names to certain words, to the punch.
