Festival season is well and truly upon us, with Lollapalooza kicking off this weekend in Chicago’s Grant Park.

The 2022 edition of the four-day event is set to see performances from big names across the world of music, including Metallica, Machine Gun Kelly and Dua Lipa.

As festival-goers don their wristbands to gain access to the weekend’s events, some have since wondered how to remove their Lollapalooza wristbands when all the fun is over. Let’s take a look…

Lollapalooza 2022 kicked off yesterday

The Chicago-based music festival returned on Thursday (28 July) as the 2022 edition of the event opened its doors to festival goers.

The four-day event, which runs until Sunday (31 July), has already seen heavy metal legends Metallica and rapper Lil Baby take to the stage.

The weekend is also set to feature performances from Machine Gun Kelly, Dua Lipa, Green Day, and Big Sean.

What to know about Lollapalooza’s wristband policy

While guests watch along to their fave musical acts over the weekend, the Lollapalooza site reminds festival goers to look after their bands.

As per the festival’s wristband policy, guests must have their wristbands securely on within the site, adding that they should not be “slipped on and off”.

It also states that guests may not be admitted entry into the event if their wristband is seen to be “stretched” or “tampered” with. On the same point, it also asks festival-goers not to remove them during the days of the event.

It is possible to get a replacement wristband if it has been damaged, lost, or stolen, however, the guest will have to pay a fee of $25.

How to remove your Lollapalooza wristband with these household items

If you are looking to free yourself from your Lollapalooza wristband after all the fun of the weekend, there are a few methods to save your band without having to resort to scissors to cut it.

As you may have noted, once on, the band can only be tightened from that point. This is because the toggle that holds the wristband together has pointed teeth inside that grip onto the fabric band, essentially locking it in place.

The key to unlocking the band from the toggle is to disarm the pointed teeth. To do this, you would need to put a barrier between the toggle and the band to stop the teeth from locking into the fabric.

One method of doing this is by using sellotape. As noted in a past video by YouTube Channel Zhuster, if you wrap the tape around the band in front of the toggle, you will be able to move it onto the taped section. Once the toggle is there, you can then wrap the end of the band with tape so the toggle can simply slide off.

If you don’t have any sellotape to hand, a similar result can also be achieved with a plastic straw. As shown in a video by YouTube Channel Clintme, you would need a small section that has one side cut.

After wrapping the straw around the band in front of the toggle and you can then move the toggle onto it. Once the toggle is on the straw, you can guide the toggle off the band by sliding the straw.
