Now, while he’s enjoying the spotlight, fans want to know more about Lil Nas X’s name and background.

How to pronounce Lil Nas X

Like many rappers, Lil Nax X’s name features Lil. Some well-known artists with this name include Lil Peep, Lil Wayne and Lil Kim.

Therefore that part of the rapper’s name is pronounced the same as other artists’ that have “Lil” as a prefix.

Now, on to the tricky part – it’s not “nas ex” but rather “nahz ex” as heard in the video below.

How did Lil Nas X get his name?

The singer has told the story of how his stage name first started as an “alias” on social media.

During an interview with Jimmy Fallon, he explained: “Nas was like my internet alias and then when I started doing music, I was like, ‘I want to have fun with this.

“And every new rapper’s named Lil, Lil, Lil. ‘What if I was Lil Nas? That’d be funny.'”

The 21-year-old added: “So I was like, ‘Alright, bet. I’ll be Lil Nas.’ And I added the X later on.”

What is Lil Nas X’s real name?

The Old Town Road singer was born on 9 April 1999 as Montero Lamar Hill.

In the same appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Lil Nas X opened up on how he was actually named after a car.

He explained: “It’s slightly embarrassing, but I’m not embarrassed.

“My mom wanted the car, the [Mitsubishi] Montero, and she never got one […] so yeah, I’m named after a car.”

His name features in the title of his new song Montero (Call Me By Your Name).

Is Lil Nas X related to Nas?

While both rappers feature Nas in their stage names, Lil Nas X and Nas are not related.

Still, Lil Nas X has admitted that his stage name was inspired by the iconic rapper.

In a 2019 tweet, he wrote: “nas is a legend and i never meant any disrespect by my stage name. i actually might change it in the future.”
